Taedong Tours was founded in 2025 by a passionate team of Korea enthusiasts dedicated to creating meaningful cultural exchange through travel to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).

Our name, Taedong (pronounced “teh-dong”), isn’t just a nod to the river running through Pyongyang. The concept of taedong (大同/대동) originated in China over 2,000 years ago, where the same characters are read as datong. This idea was was later introduced to Korea through close cultural contact between the two neighbors. Both taedong and datong are commonly translated as “the Great Unity,” an age-old ideal of universal harmony in which people live in peace, cooperation, and mutual understanding. This philosophy reflects our mission to bridge the gap between visitors and the Korean people, breaking down barriers and misconceptions to bring a little more harmony into the world.
